Warriors extend winning streak

Staff writer

After sweeping Conway Springs last week, Marion Warriors did it again with another opponent Thursday, beating Little River 17-2 and 10-0.

Cooper Bailey touched home plate four times in the first game. Eldon Smith and Jack Lanning each scored three runs of their own.

Trevor Schafers was on the mound in the first game with Kadon Mercer backing him up. Bailey pitched the second game, a shutout.

Everyone but Gavin Wasmuth scored at least one run in the second game, but Wasmuth was responsible for the last hit of the game, which allowed a teammate to score the final run and end the game to end early under “mercy” rules.

“We are off to an OK start,” coach Roger Schroeder said. “I’m happy that we have been able to get six games under our belts to this point.

“Our arms are starting to get into better shape on the mound, and I feel like, even with being in some limited pitch count situations early on, we’ve done a nice job on the mound in just about every situation we’ve been in to this point.”

The Warriors will be host for postponed game Monday against Remington then hit the road to play winless Canton-Galva on Tuesday.
