Warriors end season at Moundridge

Peabody-Burns Warriors ended the 2009-10 season at Moundridge Friday. They were defeated, 54-6.

PBHS offense had the ball first in the contest. Lucas Larsen and Storm Pickens had carries on the series. The drive ended with a fourth-and-19 punt by Brent Jones.

Moundridge offense started their first drive at midfield and despite defensive plays by Jones, Brody Kyle, and Wesley Shaw, the Wildcats scored on a short first-and-goal run. They added an extra point and the Wildcats led the Warriors 7-0.

Pickens had a short gain on first down on the next series. The drive ended with a second-down fumble and the Wildcat offense started at the Warrior 25.

Warrior defense did the job on the series with plays from Hunter Pickens, Kyle, Larsen and Trevor Foth. The Wildcats got as close as the 8-yard line, but PBHS defense forced the Wildcats to turn the ball over on a fourth-and-14 pass play that came up short at the 5-yard line.

With just less than three minutes left in the first, Warrior offense began the last drive of the quarter. Two runs from Hunter Pickens and one form Larsen earned a first down at the Warrior twenty-five.

Storm Pickens had two runs for another set of downs at the Warrior 38. The Pickens brothers combined forces for another set of downs at the 48-yard line. The drive ended early in the second quarter at midfield and Jones punted.

The next score of the game came for Moundridge with a score from their own 10-yard line.

With 10:37 left in the first half, PBHS trailed the Wildcats 14-0.

Warrior offense had the five more possessions in the second but did not score. Moundridge tacked on two more scores and led the PBHS squad 28-0 at the half.

Moundridge offense started the first series after halftime at the Wildcat 29. Defensive plays were made by Kyle, Austin Savage, Larsen, Brent Jones, and Storm Pickens but the Wildcats ended the drive with a score from the Warrior 2. With 9:26 left in the third, Moundridge led 35-0.

Moundridge scored two more times in the third. The score at the end of three favored Moundridge 47-0.

The Wildcats tacked on one more score in the fourth and increased the lead to 54-0.

Late in the contest, Foth took the short Wildcat kickoff and set up Warrior offense at their own 30-yard line. Storm Pickens gained 5 on first down but on second down took off and ran for the 65-yard score. The conversion failed, but PBHS got on the board with just two minutes left in the contest.

PBHS lost the final game of the season 54-6.

Storm Pickens rushed 20 times for 134 yards. Hunter Pickens had 6 carries for 10 yards. Hunter Pickens completed two of 10 pass attempts for 3 yards. Larsen and Storm Pickens each caught a pass. Spencer Moffett and Clint Jones both recovered fumbles in the game.
