The PBHS Warriors lost at home Friday to Bennington, 34-0. Up next, the team will have its last home appearance with a senior night matchup against Chase County and then end the season at Moundridge.
Derek Price was the first warrior to touch the ball Friday with a kickoff return to the Warrior 25. The series included runs by Hunter Pickens, Price, and Daniel Brassfield. Brassfield punted the ball on fourth-and-3.
The Bennington offense started at their own 32-yardline. Despite defensive plays from Trevor Foth, Price, Pickens, Brassfield, Brody Kyle, Spencer Moffett, and Storm Pickens, PBHS could not keep Bennington out of the end zone. With 5:25 left in the first quarter, Bennington took the lead, 7-0.
Austin Savage fielded the ensuing kickoff and the Warriors earned two new sets of downs with offense from Price, Brassfield, Storm Pickens, and Hunter Pickens. The drive stopped on a fourth-and-5 with an incomplete pass attempt.
Bennington remained in control of the ball for the remainder of the first quarter and early in the second, put up the second score of the contest. With 10:50 left in the half, Bennington took a 14-0 lead.
A kickoff return by Storm Pickens set up Warrior offense at the PBHS 40 to start the next drive. Hunter Pickens converted a third-and-11 with a pass completion to Storm Pickens to earn a new set of downs.
Hunter Pickens converted a second, third down on the drive with a quarterback keeper. The drive was halted at the Bennington 30 with a missed field goal attempt.
PBHS offense remained shutout in the half but Bennington scored again and increased their lead over the Warriors. Bennington led 20-0 at the half.
A Bennington scoring drive opened the second half. Kyle, Foth, Storm Pickens, Price, Hunter Pickens, and Moffett had tackles on the drive, but Bennington added to their lead.
With 7:25 left in the third quarter, PBHS trailed, 27-0.
PBHS offense remained without a score, but Bennington added one more early in the fourth quarter.
PBHS was defeated by Bennington, 34-0.
Lucas Larsen, Daniel Martinez, Kyle, Hunter Pickens, Savage, Price, Storm Pickens, Wesley Shaw, Jacob Gillet, Foth, and Moffett had defensive plays in the second half.
Price rushed for 138 yards on 27 attempts. Storm Pickens had eight carries for 36 yards. Hunter Pickens was three for four in the passing game for 27 yards. Storm Pickens caught one pass for 20 yards. Brassfield caught one for 7 yards.
Storm Pickens led the defense with 13.5 tackles. Kyle had 11 and Foth had 8.5. Price had 6.5 tackles, Savage had 4.5, Moffett and Larsen each recorded four, and Hunter Pickens had two. Brassfield had 1.5 tackles and Gillet had one. Martinez and Shaw each recorded .5.
