Warriors defeat Udall, 52-6

Staff writer

The Peabody-Burns Warriors defeated Udall Eagles during Friday’s game 52-6.

Quarterback Bryant Young wore the number 16 jersey during the game in honor of player Chance Elliott, who, as a result of an injury last week, is out for the season.

“We made a promise last night that we’d come out tonight and play the way Chance wanted to play,” coach David Pickens said. “Chance plays every sport he plays 100 percent and does a great job. We wanted to come out tonight and honor that and play the way he wanted to play, and I think we accomplished that.”

The first touchdown of the evening came from Austin Reynolds with 5:38 left in the quarter. Reynolds also ran 51 yards to score the second touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good, making the score 14-0.

Bailey Penner scored a touchdown making the score 22-0 in the second quarter. After the touchdown, he tackled a Udall player during kick off at the Udall 30 yard line, but Udall still drove for a touchdown, bringing the score 22-6.

Reynolds soon scored again, bringing the score to 30-6.

Penner scored another touchdown after running 43 yards with 1:30 left in the first half, making the halftime score 38-6.

In the third quarter, Reynolds ran 24 yards to score another touchdown for the Warriors. The 2-point conversion was no good, so the score remained 44-6.

Reynolds scored one more touchdown with less than eight minutes left in the third quarter, bringing the score 50-6 and ending the game due to the mercy rule.

Pickens compared the Udall football team to the Warriors.

“Udall is young,” Pickens said. “They’ve had a rough season like we’ve had a rough season. We still think we have a shot at winning a few more games here.”

Warriors will travel to Burden Central next Friday.
