Warrior boys win by 11

Peabody-Burns High School boys’ basketball team opened the 2012-13 season with a victory on Friday at Chase County. The Warriors defeated the Bulldogs, 45-34. Up next for the team is a three-game appearance at the Marion Classic that started Tuesday in Marion.

PBHS had the 2-point edge in the first quarter, leading 11-9 at the buzzer. Seth Topham led the first quarter scoring with 4 points. Christian Gard added a 3-pointer. Tommy Morris and Hunter Pickens each had a basket.

The Warriors’ defense took control in the second period and held the Bulldogs to 3 points. The PBHS offense scored 15 points led by Gard with 5. Pickens and Braxton Kyle each added 3 in the quarter. Topham and Morris each added 2. The Warriors led 26-12 at halftime.

Chase County outscored PBHS in the third quarter, 11-8, but PBHS maintained the lead, 34-23. Morris had 4 points and Topham and Pickens each added a basket in the third quarter.

Both offenses scored 11 points in the final period. Topham led the quarter scoring with 5 points, Pickens scored 4, and Kyle added 2.

Topham had the hot hand in the contest with 13 points, followed closely by Pickens with 11. Gard and Morris had 8 each and Kyle added 5.
