Safe Kids Marion County and FedEx volunteers are participating in the International Walk to School Day 2008 which is Monday through Friday.

More than 100 children from elementary schools in Marion County will participate in the Safe Kids Walk This Way program.

For the ninth year, volunteers will walk children to school to demonstrate important safety behaviors. Safe Kids Marion County also will conduct walkability checks, speed enforcement campaigns, and other activities to teach children important walking safety tips.

Each year more than 600 children, ages 0-14, are killed in the U.S. and there are 38,500 visits to emergency rooms because of non-fatal pedestrian injuries.
