The Peabody Burns High School Lady Warriors volleyball team traveled to Hope on Sept. 6. They were defeated by Little River in the first match 23-25 and 22-25, but came back to defeat Hope in second match of the evening 25-23, 23-25, and 25-17.
Little River
Paige Lewis scored first for the team with a kill. Sarah Hofkamp and Rayna Barnes teamed up for a block and the second PBHS point in the game. They squad remained in control with kills from Lewis, Kaycy Gonzalez, and Barnes and aces from Lewis. Little River, however, came back to tie the contest at 19. Two Lewis kills and a Barnes ace were not enough in the final play of the game. PBHS lost game one, 23-25.
PBHS got behind in the early minutes of game two. They got as close as 4 with aces form Gonzalez and Brandee Burnett, but Little River took the final 3 points in the game. The Lady Warriors lost game two, 22-25.
Hope
Lewis started game one with two kills, but Hope then took control of the scoring. Burnett closed the gap, 12-15, with two aces. Hofkamp earned a block and a tip, and PBHS was down one, 14-15. Even play from both teams left a tie at 19 with a Gonzalez kill. McKenzie Ensminger took the lead, 21-19, with two aces. Gonzalez iced the win with a kill, 25-23.
Game two began with an ace from Gonzalez. Barnes scored on a tip but Hope came back to tie the game at 12. PBHS regained the lead with a series of kills from Lewis and Barnes but Hope made a late run. PBHS lost game two, 23-25.
Burnett started game three with a couple of aces and Lewis followed with six kills to help build a 9-4 lead. PBHS coasted to the victory 25-17.
