The Peabody-Burns High School Lady Warriors volleyball team ended the season Saturday at Olpe in sub-state play. PBHS had a round one victory over Yates Center, 25-18 and 25-23, but they were defeated in Round two by Lebo, 19-25 and 13-25.
The team finished the season with a record of 21-13. The Lady Warriors finished second at the PBHS and Solomon tournaments. They had a second-place finish overall in league play and earned third-place honors at the Wheat State League Tournament.
Yates Center
Tori Schroeder had the first point for the PBHS squad with a tip. Lewis added a kill and the Lady Warriors led, 2-1. Kaycy Gonzalez added four kills, and Rayna Barnes added one. Yates Center stayed close until Schroeder gave the team a three-point lead, 14-11, with two kills. A Brandee Burnett ace put the team up by five, 16-11. Yates Center came back to within two, 17-15, but Lewis finished the game with two kills. PBHS won, 25-18.
Burnett opened game two with an ace. Yates Center then went up, 4-1, and PBHS played from behind. McKenzie Ensminger tied the game at 10 with two aces, but the Lady Warriors fell behind again. A Barnes ace tied the game at 15. Schroeder and Gonzalez added three kills and with two more aces from Ensminger, PBHS led, 23-21. Barnes had the 24-23 kill, and Burnett finished game two with a kill, 25-23.
Lebo
The Lady Warriors struggled in game one. A tip from Sarah Hofkamp got the team on the board, but the team trailed until Schroeder and Gonzalez each had kills to give PBHS the lead, 16-14. The lead vanished late in the game and the Lady Warriors lost, 19-25.
In game two, Schroeder aces gave the PBHS squad the lead, 5-4. Lebo regained the lead and dominated the scoring for the remainder of the contest. PBHS was defeated, 13-25.
