Volleyball team defeats Elyria, loses to CHS

The Peabody-High School vollyeball Warriors donned their pink jerseys Tuesday for breast cancer awareness Dig Pink night. The squad defeated Elyria Christian, 25-11 and 25-18, in the first match of the night but lost to Centre, 25-23 and 25-20, in the closing match. The team will play next at Berean Academy.

Elyria

Rayna Barnes got on the board for a kill and tied the score at 3. Brandee Burnett served two aces in three points and PBHS led 6-3. A kill from Paige Lewis and an ace from Barnes helped the Lady Warriors build a 9-4 lead. Brianna Larsen and Kaycy Gonzalez then got into the scoring. The Lady Warriors took game one, 25-11.

Barnes, Katy Benson, and Burnett combined for the first five points in game two. McKenzie Ensminger, Burnett, Barnes, and Cierra Foth all recorded aces in the contest. Foth had an ace and a tip late in the match for the 24-18 lead. Gonzalez earned the win at the net, 25-18.

Centre

Barnes and Gonzalez teamed up for a block for the first Lady Warrior point. Barnes earned a kill and Gonzalez added an ace for the 4-1 edge. Ensminger and Lewis added kills, but Centre rallied to take the lead. A Lewis ace was the last tie of the contest 9-9. An ace from Lewis and two kills from Gonzalez kept the game close late, but Centre earned the last two points of game one. PBHS lost 23-25.

Barnes opened with a kill in game two. Centre kept the game close early but Ensminger scored an ace for the two-point margin 10-8. Barnes had two kills for the 14-10 lead but Centre rallied and kept the points close. Gonzalez had two kills for the 17-15 edge and Barnes recorded a kill, 19-16. Centre responded and took the lead, 20-19. A Burnett kill was the last Lady Warrior point to tie the game, 20-20. Centre took the last five points. PBHS lost, 25-20.
