Volleyball earns victories on the road

Peabody-Burns High School volleyball took on Centre and Wakefield Tuesday at Centre. The Lady Warriors defeated Wakefield, 25-14 and 25-23, and Centre in three games, 21-25, 27-25, 25-16.

Wakefield

Embry Hodges recorded the first kill in the Wakefield contest to give the Lady Warriors the 2-1 edge. Hodges and Tori Schroeder combined for a block and Hodges served up two aces for the PBHS squad to give the team an 8-2 cushion. Michaela Methvin added several kills late in the contest and ended game one with a kill, 25-14.

A Methvin kill opened the Lady Warriors scoring in game two. Paige Lewis served an ace, but Wakefield came back to take the lead. Methvin and Rayna Barnes teamed up for a block to make the score 4-4, but Wakefield charged ahead of the Lady Warriors leading 17-8 before Hodges added a kill, an ace, a tip and another ace to pull the team to within four, 14-18.

Methvin came up with two kills down the stretch and also an ace that edged Wakefield, 21-20. A Brandee Burnnett serve iced the game, 25-23.

Methvin had eight kills in the match and Hodges had five. Hodges had six aces. Sarah Hoffkamp had six assists.

Centre

PBHS played from behind throughout game one against Centre. Methvin had a tip and a kill, but PBHS trailed 11-5. Lewis went on a scoring run with two kills and two aces. Hodges had an ace and PBHS trailed by one, 15-16. Hoffkamp served the tying ace at point 116. Centre then took several points. Hodges had an ace and Methvin a kill late in the game but PBHS lost, 21-25, in game one.

Centre took the early lead in game two. Lewis and Hodges recorded aces and Methvin had two kills and PBHS trailed by one 8-9. Methvin tied the score with a kill at 9-9. The teams traded points and Hodges tied the score at 12 with a kill and PBHS took the lead on a Hodges ace, 13-12. The Lady Warriors led briefly with kills by Hodges and Methvin, but Centre again came back to take the lead. Methvin pulled the team to within four, 19-22, with a kill. An ace from Methvin tied the game at 23. Lewis earned a kill to tie the game at 24. A Hodges kill tied the game at 25. PBHS took point 26 and an ace from Hoffkamp finished game two with a Lady Warrior victory, 27-25.

An ace from Hoffkamp opened game three. Schroeder had a tip set and an ace and PBHS led 3-0. Lewis earned two points with a kill and an ace and Hodges had a tip. Methvin and Barnes each had a kill and PBHS led, 9-2. PBHS continued to build the lead behind a Schroeder ace, two Methvin kills, a Lewis kill and a Hodges ace. The Lady Warriors won game three, 25-16.

Methvin had 12 kills in the match, Hodges had five and Lewis earned four. Methvin scored five aces, Hodges and Hofkamp had four and Schroeder had two. Hodges had 13 digs and Methvin and Schroeder had seven each. Hoffkamp had 18 assists.
