Vintage to add Whitewater bank

Vintage Bank, which last year purchased Peabody State Bank, is expanding to Whitewater.

The bank announced last week that it intends to purchase Bank of Whitewater, subject to regulatory approval. The sale is expected to close later this year.

With another branch already scheduled to open soon in El Dorado, the addition will give Vintage locations in seven cities, including Benton, Conway Springs, Leon, and Wichita.

Like Peabody State, the Bank of Whitewater has for many years been run by a local family.

Donald Patry is chairman of the board, and Brandon Patry is president of the bank, which reportedly is the oldest in Butler County.

The bank began in 1891. The Patry family has been involved for 27 years.

Vintage’s chairman and principal owner is Wink Hartman Sr. of Wichita. Known primarily as an oil man, he expanded into banking in 2012, purchasing Leon State Bank.

Vintage’s chief executive, Steve Worrell, grew up in rural Butler County and has worked in banking for many years.

According to 2016 regulatory reports, acquisition of the Whitewater bank will add more than $18 million to the $76 million already on deposit with Vintage.

Vintage’s Peabody branch has the fourth largest deposits among Marion County bank branches.
