Vern Smith

Former carpenter Vern W. Smith, 93, Peabody, died Friday at Peabody Health and Rehab.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Peabody Christian Church.

He was born Dec. 7, 1921, to Nathan and Anna (Penland) Smith in Marion, the second-youngest of nine children.

He married Rosalie Brewer on June 12, 1949, and they raised four children together. She preceded him in death in 2013. His primary occupation was as a carpenter.

A daughter, Susan, and a great-grandchild also preceded him in death.

Survivors include: children, Verna Mosiman and Gail Myers, both of Peabody, and Stanley Smith of Emporia; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials to Good Shepherd Hospice are being accepted by Baker Funeral Home.
