Peabody Senior Center members will be making Valentines for Peabody Care Center and Westview Manor on Thursday.

“We did this project last year and had such a wonderful time doing it that we decided to do it again this year,” site manager Ruth Lott said. “We hope everyone will come join us for the fun whether they are super ‘crafty’ or not. We will start right after lunch and work as long as we want or until enough Valentines are completed.

“We have some materials to make the cards, but anyone who has supplies left over from other projects should bring them along,” she added.

Lott noted how much the Valentines are appreciated by the residents who receive them.

Gayla Ratzlaff of the Marion County Area Agency will be at the center Feb. 8 to assist seniors with filing special Kansas taxes. Her visit works best when interested members have an appointment scheduled in advance. Call the center at (620) 983-2226 for an appointment.

The local board meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 11. Any interested senior citizen is invited to attend the meeting.

February birthdays will be celebrated at lunch on Feb. 12. The meal is oven-fried chicken with all the trimmings. Reservations must be made at least the day ahead at (620) 983-2226. If there is no answer, leave a message.

“Lenten Services will begin on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13 after the noon meal. Pastor Jim Pohlman of the First Christian Church will lead the first service,” Lott said.

Local pastors and other spiritual leaders in the community will participate in coming weeks.

Lunch is served at 11:45 each day and reservations are needed to be sure the staff prepares enough food.

Call the center to reserve a meal. After hours, leave a message on the answering machine. Meals are a suggested contribution of $3.15 for those 60 or older. All others are welcome to eat a balanced meal with a drink and dessert for $5.
