USD 410 hires new superintendent

Staff writer

The USD 410 Board of Education hired Steve Noble as the new superintendent Saturday at a special board meeting.

Noble currently is assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction at USD 312 in Haven. His contract to succeed Interim Superintendent Doug Huxman begins July 1.

He has previous connections with USD 410 through Haven’s membership in the Mid-Central Activities Association. His experiences have shown Hillsboro to be a good town with good people, Noble said.

Noble learned about the search for a superintendent online. He also received a flier at the USD 312 office. The school board offered him the position about 1 p.m. Friday, Noble said. He accepted after calling his wife about the offer.

The school board approved a two-year contract Saturday. Noble will make $91,000 per year.

Huxman hasn’t made definite plans after his contract expires, but he said he enjoyed his time in Hillsboro.

“It’s really been a great two years,” Huxman said. “Working with some people I already knew, and getting to know some others, it’s been enjoyable.”

Board of Education President Rod Koons said the board was pleased with the work Huxman had done in the district.

“Doug has done just a tremendous job for us,” Koons said. “He was the right person at the right time for the district.”

Noble grew up in Kiowa, where both his parents live and continue to teach. He is married to Gita, and they have three daughters: Eva, 7; Ellie, 4; and Emma, 3.

Noble said he plans to move to Hillsboro as soon as his family can sell their house and find a place locally. He expects it to be a good place to raise his daughters.

“I’m looking forward to getting to Hillsboro,” Noble said.
