Unruh named national FFA winner

Duane Unruh, of Peabody-Burns FFA Chapter, was named national winner in Poultry Production Entrepreneurship Placement Proficiency Award Program at the FFA National Convention Oct. 21 through 24 in Indianapolis.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees, or volunteers while they gain hands-on career experience.

Duane receive a plaque and check for $500 as a national finalist.

He began raising broilers in third grade as a 4-H project and now is owner of Unruh Pasture Fresh Poultry. Duane raises, butchers, and markets Cornish cross broilers and produces eggs from Black Sexlink hens. He is supported by his parents, Harlin and Doris Unruh, and his FFA advisers, Glenn Bechtel, Sonya Roberts, and Steve Thorburn.
