Ron Traxson, USD 398 Superintendent and former administrator at Cheney, has been named Overall Outstanding Art Administrator of the year for 2013. The Kansas Art Education Association presented the award to Traxson at its Oct. 25 fall conference in Overland Park.

Traxson was nominated by Cheney High School art teacher Shawny Montgomery.

Montgomery described Traxson as a champion and advocate for the arts. In times of dwindling budgets, Traxson has ensured that fine arts programs remain an integral part of the curriculum.

Traxon also has advocated for faculty to attend professional development conferences throughout the region.

The Kansas Art Education Association is a statewide professional organization dedicated to the growth and development of art educators and the advancement of high quality art education.
