Tractor runs over car

Two women were hospitalized after their car was run over by a tractor Monday at 110th and Jade Rds.

The accident happened around 2 p.m. when a 1994 Mercury Sable driven by Dianna Howell of Hillsboro collided with a John Deere tractor pulling a hay rake. The tractor was operated by Sheldon Weims of rural Hillsboro.

The Mercury struck the tractor just before the large rear tire, which rolled onto the car.

Howell and her passenger, daughter Lena, were taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, one by ambulance, the other by helicopter.

The intersection is unmarked and has no impediments to visibility, Sheriff Robert Craft said. Only minor damage was done to the tractor. Howell’s vehicle had to be towed.

Hillsboro and Peabody ambulances and firefighters responded.
