Topham named outstanding student

Peabody-Burns High School graduate Andrew Topham was selected as the male recipient of Southwestern College’s 2011 Outstanding Student-Athlete Award.

The award is presented to the top male and female senior student-athletes for exceptional performance in athletics, academics, leadership, and college and community service.

Topham is a biochemistry major and was named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American scholar athlete in 2009 and 2010 in cross-country and 2010 and 2011 in track and field. He was named Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross-Country Runner of the week nine times and KCAC Track Athlete of the Week once.

Kaydee Johnson of Winfield was the female recipient of the award.

The awards were presented Monday in Stewart Field House in Winfield.
