Topeka event to promote senior services

Staff writer

Senior Care Act services will be promoted at Older Kansans Day at the Legislature Feb. 16 in Topeka.

SCA services assist people to prevent them from having to move up to higher-level services like Medicaid or nursing homes, North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging Executive Director Julie Govert Walter said.

The amount of money taxpayers save by avoiding putting a senior on Medicaid or in a nursing home is substantial, Walter said.

NCFH hopes SCA recipients in the area will show up to help promote the services.

“We try to get some of our program recipients to tell stories of what a difference the program makes for them,” said Lauren Steinlage, transitions coordinator for North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging.

The event is free to attend and lunch will be available for $10.

To make a reservation, call (800) 432-2703 by Thursday.
