Peabody-Burns Junior High School football team still is searching for a win this season after a Thursday night loss to Sunrise Academy, 40-16.

The team will have a road game next with a matchup against Hope/White City.

Tomahawk offense did not find the end zone in the first half of the contest.

Sunrise Academy scored three times and led 22-0 at the half.

After the half, Sunrise Academy put up two more scores and led 34-0, but Tomahawk offense put together two scoring drives to prevent the Sunrise shutout.

Quarterback Brooks Hodges connected with Xavier Jabary for a 40-yard pass completion for the touchdown. Hodges then hit Braxton Kyle with a pass in the end zone for a two-point conversion and the Tomahawks cut the Sunrise lead, 34-8.

Sunrise scored again, but Tomahawk offense had one drive left in the contest. Hodges answered the opponent’s score with a 20-yard pass to Kyle for six points. Wyatt Fistler caught a Hodges pass and added a two-point conversion to make the final score 40-16.

Defensive highlights for the PBJH squad included fumble recoveries by Kyle and Kaden Gibson and an interception by Kyle.
