Peabody-Burns Junior High Tomahawk football team now has a 1-1 record for the 2010-11 season with a loss Thursday to Canton-Galva, 22-14. The team will travel to Goessel on Thursday.
Goessel offense scored one touchdown with 3 minutes, 46 seconds on the clock in the first quarter. The conversion failed but the Eagles took the lead, 6-0.
Tomahawk offense had the ball three times in the first half but each drive ended with a turnover on downs.
The halftime score favored Canton-Galva, 6-0.
The Eagles added the first score in the second half with a run. The conversion was successful and PBJH was down, 14-0.
Brooks Hodges and Corbin Rives put the Tomahawks on the scoreboard with a 55-yard pass play with 5:04 in the 3rd quarter. The extra point attempt failed but PBJH cut the Eagle lead to eight, 14-6.
Canton-Galva scored again on the next drive. PBJH trailed, 22-6, with less than three minutes to play in the third quarter.
Late in the fourth, PBJH added one more score when Kevin Baatrup connected with Vince Newman for a 10-yard pass play. Baatrup then threw a strike to Kaden Gibson for the two-point conversion. The Tomahawks cut the lead, 22-14, with just seconds left on the clock.
Canton-Galva covered the on-side kick attempt and ran out the clock. PBJH lost to the Eagles, 22-14.
