The Peabody-Burns Junior High School volleyball team wrapped up a successful season Thursday with a victory against Goessel.

The Tomahawks won 36-12 and finished the season at 6-1.

Hunter Pickens put up the first Tomahawk score with a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.

Pickens also ran the two-point conversion in, and the Tomahawks were up 8-0 with seven minutes, 12 seconds left in the first quarter.

Pickens connected with Seth Topham for the next Tomahawk score.

The 43-yard pass play added six to the scoreboard and PBJH increased the lead 14-0.

Lucas Larsen finished the next scoring drive with a one-yard run.

Pickens added the two-point conversion and the Tomahawks led 22-0.

Goessel got on the board on its next drive to narrow the PBJH lead 22-6.

Larsen found the end zone again before the half on a 37-yard run.

Pickens connected with Austin Savage and with less than two minutes to play in the first half, PBJH led 30-6.

For the next score, the Tomahawk defense set up the offense at its own 34 with a blocked punt.

Larsen scored again, this time on a 52-yard run.

The lead was 36-6 with 2:24 left in the third quarter.

Goessel added one more score in the contest, but the Tomahawks recorded the victory, 36-12.

“It was a good season,” head coach Brian Simmonds said. “We are so pleased not only with our players, but with the fans who braved some awful weather to watch us play.

“Thanks to all of our supporters. They are a big part of our success.”
