Tomahawks defeat Rural Vista, 42-24

The Tomahawks were ready to play Thursday when they soundly defeated Rural Vista, 42-24.

Rural Vista scored on their opening drive to take an early 6-0 lead over the Peabody-Burns Junior High Tomahawks.

On the ensuing kick-off, Brook Hodges received the ball and ran 70 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown. Braxton Kyle scored the 2-point conversion and PBJHS took the 8-6 lead with 5 minutes, 51 seconds on the clock in the first quarter.

Rural Vista scored 6 on their next possession to regain the lead, 12-8.

PBJHS received the kick-off and started their next scoring drive at their own 30-yard line. Kevin Baatrup connected with Corbin Rives for a 49-yard pass play that ended in the Rural Vista end zone. The conversion failed but the Tomahawks led, 14-12, with less than two minutes left in the first period.

The Tomahawks added the next score in the contest with a 2-yard run by Hodges. The conversion failed but the Tomahawks added to their lead, 20-12 with 2:11 left in the half.

Rural Vista cut the lead to 2, 20-18, with a score shortly before the end of the second quarter.

The Tomahawks weren’t finished in the first half as the PBJHS offense added one more score with five seconds on the clock. Baatrup found Hodges on a 10-yard pass play and the Tomahawks took the 26-18 lead. Baatrup ran the 2-point conversion and PBJHS led, 28-18, at the half.

The Tomahawks added the first points of the second half with a Baatrup to Hodges touchdown pass. The conversion attempt failed but with 6:10 left in the third, PBJHS had the 34-18 lead.

Another touchdown for the Tomahawks was added when Baatrup connected with Kyle for the score. Baatrup hit Rives for the conversion and the PBJHS squad led, 42-18, with 4:35 left in the third.

Rural Vista added one more score in the game to make the final score, 42-24.
