Tomahawks beat Moundridge

The near perfect season continues for the Peabody-Burns Junior High Tomahawks.

Their latest victory came Thursday against Moundridge, 44-26.

The team is 5-1 and will take this week off, but will play the final game of the season next week.

Seth Topham covered the opening onsides kick and set up the Tomahawk offense at its own 49-yard line.

Hunter Pickens finished the drive with an eight-yard score.

The PAT was unsuccessful, but PBJH took the early lead 6-0 with 7:23 left to play in the first period.

Moundridge tied the ballgame on the next series with a long pass play.

The extra point attempt was no good and the game was tied at six with 3:52 left in the first quarter.

A fumble recovery by Lance Hartley set up the PBJH offense on the next drive at the Moundridge 46.

Pickens capped off the drive with a 26-yard run for a touchdown.

Lucas Larsen added a two-point conversion run and the Tomahawks regained the lead 14-6 with 6:09 left in the first half.

Another fumble recovery, this time by Austin Savage, set up the Tomahawks at the Moundridge 26-yard line. Larsen went the distance for the score.

The extra point failed but with 5:45 left in the second quarter, PBJH increased the lead 20-6.

The Tomahawk offense had another chance to score before the half.

The 40-yard drive finished with a 13-yard run by Larsen for the touchdown.

Pickens connected with Savage for the two-point conversion and the Tomahawks led at the half 28-6.

Early in the second half, PBJH defense forced a Moundridge punt.

The punter scrambled and connected with a receiver on a fake punt.

The result of the play was a Moundridge touchdown.

The extra point failed and the Tomahawks lead was trimmed to 28-12 with 5:34 left in the third quarter.

The next scoring drive for PBJH started at its own 20 and ended with a Pickens pass to Topham for a 25-yard score.

Larsen ran the conversion in and the Tomahawks added eight to remain in the lead 36-12 with 3:04 left in the third quarter.

A final Tomahawk score came with 5:56 left in the fourth period.

Pickens hit Larsen with a 20-yard pass for the touchdown.

Pickens and Larsen also teamed up for the two-point conversion.

Moundridge put up two scores late in the game to cut into the Tomahawk lead, but PBJH claimed a fifth victory this season, 44-26.
