After His resurrection from the dead, Jesus appeared to His apostles (and other followers) for 40 days. Acts tells us that Jesus “presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs …”
He spoke to them about the kingdom of God and their responsibility to go out and spread the gospel. Then He promised He would be with them always, even to the end of the age. Then He ascended back to heaven.
Think about that promise.
They would have the assurance of Christ’s presence and care every second of their lives. Never, not even for a blink of an eye, would Jesus be unaware of their needs. Never would Jesus’ followers be out of the sight of the King of Kings!
Wherever the duty of preaching the gospel of their risen Lord took them, they would enjoy uninterrupted communion with Jesus. He would be with them as they lived for Him, toiled for Him, suffered for Him, and even died for Him.
Every Christian enjoys that same wonderful promise. Jesus is with us also, always, as we wait to see Him face-to-face.
