HOPE IN THE HEARTLAND:   The river of time

Gracepoint Church, Peabody

The new year stretches before us like a winding river. It curves out of sight, allowing us to only see the waters that directly surround us.

What awaits around the bend could be calm or churning. There might be whirlpools or waterfalls. Or both.

The river of time can bring good and bad, blessings and curses, life and death.

In the early part of the first month of the new year we try to tell ourselves that we are going to be in control of the journey. Or at least we will take charge of those things that will make us more ready to handle the pleasant ripples or the white-tipped rapids.

But the only thing we can know for sure is that God is the only one who can see the entire map at one glance. Only He knows what is around the bend. He’s the only one who knows how we should prepare ourselves to handle it. He’s provided us a guidebook called the Bible.

And He wants us to trust Him through it all: sunshine, rain, sickness, health, smooth sailing and shipwreck.

Are you ready to trust Him each day?
