The sounds of bluegrass and classic country will fill the air Dec. 6 as The Greenhorns perform at Peabody Prairie Christmas.
“We play songs of Americana,” said dobro and guitar player Rollin Schmidt of Goessel.
The Greenhorns are Schmidt, fiddle player K.D. Schmidt of Goessel, banjo player Dan Carlson, bassist Jerry Jones, both of Falun, and vocalist Gregg Eichorn of Elyria.
Rollin Schmidt and K.D. Schmidt previously were in the country band, Cactus Jack. Rollin Schmidt said he learned the dobro after retiring from music. He met the other members of the band at a jam night at a music store in McPherson, and he has played with them for the past three years.
Interim Peabody Main Street Association Executive Director Shane Marler said he found out about The Greenhorns when he met them at a bluegrass festival in Winfield.
Peabody Prairie Christmas also will have a parade, crafts for children, and other activities. The Greenhorns will play from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the American Legion during a chuck wagon supper.
