Multiple Marion County volleyball teams were off last week with no games since Sept. 28 or earlier. The ones who did see action experienced mixed results.
Marion struggled in tournament play Saturday at Beloit. The Warriors won their second set against Hanover 25-18, but lost both the first and third sets 25-20.
Marion then lost to Beloit in straight sets, 26-24, and 25-11.
The Warriors’ more promising play was Thursday, when they won two matches over Moundridge. Marion dropped the opening set 25-16, and then won the following two sets 25-19, 25-16.
The Warriors took the second match in similar fashion, losing the first set 25-20 but taking the other two 25-16, 25-21.
Marion was 19-8 after weekend play.
Goessel places 2nd
The Bluebirds made their way as far as the championship match Saturday in Canton-Galva’s adapted tournament but couldn’t capture the title.
Committing too many errors doomed their chances against Halstead, losing 25-16, 25-12.
The tournament was held at two sites, with Goessel hosting three schools. The Bluebirds lost to Halstead in early in three sets, losing the first 25-19, and final set 25-22. Goessel won the second set 22-25.
Goessel beat Rural Vista 31-29, 25-14, and defeated Little River 28-26, 25-12 in their final match of pool play.
The Bluebirds now are 13-10 overall. Goessel will be at Herington to face the Railers and Solomon.
Teams return to play
Centre’s most recent game was Tuesday against Goessel.
Hillsboro had no games from Sept. 26 until Tuesday. The Trojans played at Pratt Tuesday in matches against the Greenbacks and Haven, but results were not available at press time.
The Trojans were 13-2 prior to Tuesday, and they were third-ranked in Class 2A.
Peabody-Burns also had much of last week off prior to Tuesday. The Warriors played Tuesday in a quad at Little River, though results were unavailable at press time.
Their Sept. 29 match was a dual at Little River, which Peabody-Burns lost in three sets of a five-set match. The Warriors lost the first set 25-16, then the second and third sets each 25-12.
Centre will return to play Thursday after two weeks of quarantine from when a player was in isolation for COVID-19.
