Marion High football got a chance to size up its competition Friday during a four-way scrimmage.

The Warriors faced Lyndon, Eureka, and Remington-Whitewater in near 100-degree heat in a scrimage that had coaches from all four teams reminding their athletes to drink sports drinks or water.

Marion coach Shaun Craft said his team has become used to the heat this summer but admitted he had to reschedule several practices because of heat.

“We just make sure we include plenty of water breaks and always make sure we have the cold tub available during practice,” he said.

Craft expects a challenging season for the Warriors this year as the team faces four opponents ranked in the top 10 in their classes last year.

“We will be tested right away against Ell-Saline, who are ranked No. 9 in the coaches’ preseason poll,” he said.

Marion High will face Ell-Saline Friday in Brookville.

This is the first year the Warriors have played host to three teams for its pre-season scrimmages.

It gave coaches and players the chance to see how they stacked up against some tough teams.

“It was a good start to the season and great to get back on the field,” Craft said.
