News editor

The Peabody-Burns boys’ basketball team got off to positive start in Friday’s game against Centre, but lost 58-26. The girls lost 43-15.

Boys

The Warriors started the game strong, leading for almost five minutes before the Cougars took over and never trailed again.

Centre led 29-20 at halftime.

The bottom dropped out of Peabody’s offense in the second half. Turnovers and missed shots limited them to just 6 second-half points.

With Peabody challenged for scoring the second half, Centre finished with a 32-point victory.

Peabody lost the fight for rebounds, 38-16.

Scoring summary: Philip Young, 7 points; Jack Parks, 5; Caleb Vancuren, 5; Noal Reynolds, 3; Tyler Entz, 2; Andrew Hauck, 2.

Girls

The girls’ team continued to struggle with creating shots and pulling down rebounds.

They scored nine points in the first half, but Centre led by 14 at halftime, 25-9.

The Warriors scored 9 points in the second half while the Cougars added 18 points for a 28-point victory.

“As a team, we are understanding the game much more as the season continues,” coach Travis Schafer said.

“Confidence in ourselves is still a work in progress and something we will strive for as the season goes on,” he said. “I’m very proud of each one of these players and the excitement for me, continues to grow as I watch the girls mature through the season.”

Scoring summary: Mia Winter, 5; Skylre Stuckey, 5; Sydney Hodges, 3; Ariana Marcenaro, 2.
