Sweating it out at the fair
Staff writer
Despite temperatures approaching 100 degrees, kids ages 3 to 12 toughed it out to show how mighty they were during a pedal pull contest at the county fair last week.
Competition was fierce and determined.
As kids starting with 3-year-olds competed, older kids watched and decided they could outdo others and went to a registration booth to sign up.
The power-pedal competition is put on by M&C Pedal Power of Bennington. M&C is owned by Mark and Cathy Whitesell.
The fair led off with a horse show July 17 and ran through Sunday.
July 20 featured 4-H project judging, a parade, a hot dog meal and a watermelon feed, music by DJ Aaron Waddell, and a Kraft rodeo with mutton bustin’ and calf scramble.
On Thursday, a bounce house, food trucks, and cornhole tournament were added to the slate of things to do.
4-H livestock and project auction and lawn mower races were Friday.
Saturday’s entertainment included Wet ’n’ Wild, a barbecue competition, and a demolition derby. See story, Page 7.
