Several Peabody-Burns Elementary School students recently enjoyed cold watermelon, the results of work in a garden during summer school.
When planning for summer school, PBES Principal Ken Parry approached high school teacher Ann Leppke, who was working with high school students on a school garden, about adding a gardening class to PBES summer school.
Students in the summer gardening class helped plant a variety of plants, water the school garden, and many other activities. In addition to learning how to take care of a variety of flowers, fruits, and vegetables, they painted terracotta pots, planted geraniums in them, and presented them to residents of Westview Manor and Peabody Care Center.
