Student attends national conventions

Peabody-Burns senior Alex Young has been a bit of a jetsetter of late.
In October, he traveled to Indianapolis to play his trombone in Future Farmers of America’s national band.
FFA’s 95th convention in October was fun, even though it was busy with little free time, Young said.
“Getting to be up on the stage was pretty fantastic,” he said.
He estimated the crowd of fellow FFA members and leaders at each performance to be about 15,000. Young and other members of the band also played outside the convention hall.
The last week of November, he was off to Atlanta for National 4-H Congress.
Young’s 4-H record book project won at district, regional, and state levels. He then was elected to go to Atlanta as a delegate for Kansas.
Congress was a five-day event during which Young attended workshops, listened to speakers, and talked to people from around the country.
Where’s he headed next?
“Oh, I don’t know,” Young said. “I’m going to apply for the youth design team that puts together the congress for the next year.”He knows he wants to major in music education, but he hasn’t yet decided where he’ll go to college.
