Storms soak Marion County

Monday night and Tuesday storms brought soaking rain and hail to Marion County. Hail anywhere from nickel-size to 1-inch was reported around Hillsboro and Lehigh on Monday evening as storms rolled through the county, according the National Weather Service web site.

Marion County received rains anywhere from 2 to 3 inches, with the highest recorded rainfalls around Hillsboro and Durham, said Chris Jakub, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wichita.

He said he received early reports of flooding Tuesday night “in the usual low-lying areas in the county where it normally floods.”

He said he expected the county to receive anywhere from 1 to 3 inches more of rain, with a chance for more rain Wednesday.

This weekend will be dry and cooler with highs in the 50s on Thursday and in the upper 50s or 60s on Friday.
