HOPE IN THE HEARTLAND:   Stay away from the cesspool

Gracepoint Church, Peabody

My 4-year-old son came out of the bathroom one day, and said to me, “Don’t worry, Dad, I won’t play in the toilet anymore.”

So much for giving him privacy. I did appreciate the attitude of repentance, and I was certainly on board with the renewed commitment to walk the straight and narrow. But the toilet … really? I was a tad disappointed … and disgusted.

We’d done all the training, given all the lectures, and issued a few warnings, but he still made the decision in spite of them all.

How do you think God feels when we human beings ignore His warnings and play in the cesspool called “sin?” His perfect holiness is offended and His justice is demanded. Yet He offers forgiveness if we repent. This world offers filth and God extends mercy to those who will come to Him and confess their sins.

God knows the intent of our hearts. He also knows our weakness. He wants us to come to Him in full assurance that He will keep His promise to forgive us. But He also wants us to take our repentance seriously and stay away from the cesspool. Where are you right now?
