Special curfew in place Monday

Due to excessive damage to property in the past few years, Peabody Police Chief Bruce Burke reminds the community that a special curfew will be in effect Monday night for Halloween.

“Two years ago Peabody City Council enacted an ordinance to prevent those younger than 18 from being out on Halloween night after 8:30 p.m.,” Burke said. “Council members want the children in our community to have fun, but most trick or treating should be finished by 8 or 8:30 p.m. and there is no reason for youngsters to be out and about.”

The ordinance specifies that no person younger than 18 be out after 8:30 p.m. “walking, wandering, loitering, riding, or driving on any public street or alley or public property or vacant lot, or anyplace that allows public access.”

“Essentially they need to be at home,” he added.

For more information, contact the Peabody Police Department at (620) 983-2133 or the city building at (620) 983-2174.
