A charity softball tournament Saturday raised $510 after expenses for Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.

Mike Calhoun, Travis Schafers, Kelley Schafers, and Clayton Garnica organized the tournament. Earlier this year, Calhoun collected donations door-to-door, raising about $1,400 for cancer research. The softball tournament put him within $100 of his $2,000 goal.

The four-team tournament began with a round robin. In the first round, Ampride defeated Law Dawgs 12-4, and Midway Motors defeated Out on a Limb 13-6.

Out on a Limb defeated Law Dawgs 15-7, and Midway Motors defeated Ampride 13-5 in the second round. Midway Motors defeated Law Dawgs 21-3, and Out on a Limb defeated Ampride 16-10 in the third round.

Law Dawgs defeated Ampride 15-13 in the consolation game. Midway Motors defeated Out on a Limb 27-12 in the championship game. The consolation and championship games were played with “duck soup” rules, with a new rule every inning.

Scott Steward and Tracy Rudolph were volunteer umpires. Kelley Schafers said the group hopes to make the tournament an annual event.
