Shopping spree winners announced

Peabody Mayor Larry Larsen drew the names of the winners of the Peabody Main Street Shopping Spree on Dec. 22.

Gladys Preheim was the first-place winner of $800. Janice Woodruff won $400 as the second-place winner, and Janie Hodges won the third-place prize of $100.

All the prizes were in the form of Peabody Bucks, generating more local sales.

“Last year shoppers completed about 320 tickets representing $16,000 in sales,” Shane Marler, Peabody Main Street director said. “The completed tickets for this year totaled $16,650 in sales. Plus, we want to remind people to bring their partially completed tickets to the city building before Dec. 29. There will be a special drawing for a $75 prize among those who took part in the Shopping Spree, but didn’t complete all their tickets.

“That will help us track the retail sales in Peabody more closely.”

Peabody Main Street President Susie Schmidt said she was pleased with the participation in the Shopping Spree.

“With the economy the way it is, we thought we might have less participation this year,” she said. “But the number of tickets indicates a small increase over last year and we are pleased with that.”

The final drawing winner will be announced in the next issue of the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin.
