Shopping spree ends Friday

Staff writer

The Peabody Main Street Association Shopping Spree will come to a close Friday afternoon and the winners will be drawn from the tickets turned in at the Peabody City Building. Three lucky winners will receive prizes of $600, $300, and $100 in Peabody Bucks.

“Shoppers need to turn in their tickets this week,” PMSA director Shane Marler said. “The drawing box is at the front office in city hall and winners will be drawn promptly at 2 p.m. Friday.”

Merchants listed on the back of each Shopping Spree ticket provide the prize money. Shoppers who patronize those merchants can have a ticket marked or punched for each $10 they spend in participating businesses. When a shopper has a ticket marked by five merchants, the ticket is eligible for the drawing.

“We hope everyone will remember to sign the back of the ticket in the space given,” Marler said. “There are always some people who forget to fill that in. It’s a little hard to contact you if we don’t know who you are.”

Peabody Main Street Association uses the tickets to track holiday shopping in Peabody. Incomplete tickets also indicate purchases that should count toward any total figured for holiday shopping. To get as accurate a number as possible, people with incomplete tickets are asked to turn them in to city hall after the holidays. At 2 p.m. on Dec. 29, the name of the winner in a “Loser’s Bracket” drawing for $75 in Peabody Bucks will be pulled from the incomplete Shopping Spree cards.
