Sheriff mum on porn arrest

Citing ongoing investigation, Sheriff Jeff Soyez revealed little about the arrest Friday of a Marion man on suspicion of possession of pornographic images of a child.

Alan E. Overton, 32, Marion, was arrested Friday by the sheriff, a Marion police officer, and four deputies.

Overton was released from jail 10 hours later after posting a $100,000 surety bond.

Soyez said the investigation began when deputies got a tip from an Internet child pornography investigation group that Overton might have pornography on his computer.

Besides a warrant for Overton’s arrest, another warrant was issued for his computer. It was seized at the same time, Soyez said.

Soyez said he did not know the date the original tip came in, but more investigation and warrants would be needed before the investigation was complete and any charges could be filed.

The computer will be analyzed by a computer forensics investigator.
