Bruce and Diedre Serene announce the engagement of their daughter, Mieka Ann Serene, to Casey Jacob Bartel, son of Marlin and Cheryl Bartel, all of Hillsboro.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Shirley Reusser and George Charlsen of Wichita and the late Dwayne Reusser, Shirley Serene of Herington, and Donald and Lorraine Serene of Port St. Lucie, Florida.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Myrta and the late Johnnie Bartel of Hillsboro, and Ann and the late Elmer Bartel of Durham.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and Wichita State University, with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She is employed at Newton Medical Center in the emergency room.

The future groom is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and Southeast Community College, Beatrice, Nebraska, with an associate’s degree in applied sciences and diversified agricultural production. He is a farmer and cattleman.

The couple will be married April 11 at First Mennonite Church of Hillsboro.
