Sports writer

A first-round sub-state game March 3 at Moundridge ended the season for the Peabody-Burns High School girls’ basketball team.

Moundridge defeated the Lady Warriors, 78-38.

PBHS finished the season at 2-19.

The Lady Wildcats got on the board first with a three-point basket, but Felecia Pohlman evened it up with a three of her own and Julie Wedel shot the go-ahead basket with 6:50 on the clock.

Bayleigh Clark added two more and PBHS was up, 7-3.

The Lady Warriors’ lead vanished when Moundridge went on a 10-0 run to lead, 13-7.

Wedel added another three-pointer and Stephanie Rempel a two, but Moundridge earned the first quarter edge, 20-12.

A scoreless second quarter spelled disaster for PBHS as Moundridge put in 18 points.

The Lady Warriors trailed, 40-12, at the half.

While PBHS never challenged the lead again, the second half was better for the Lady Warrior offense.

Wedel paced the team in the final half for the PBHS squad with 10 points, while Rempel added five.

Felecia Pohlman nailed a three. Clark, Michaela Methvin, and Heather Brooks each had a basket, and Traylee Woodruff contributed two free throws.

Seniors Rempel and Clark scored the final two Lady Warrior baskets of the season.
