Schools, rec, half of towns may raise taxes

Every school district in Marion County has notified the county that it intends to increase its tax levy.

So has every recreation commission except Goessel’s, half the towns, three fire districts, three watersheds, and Chisholm Trail Extension District.

Burns, Hillsboro, Lincolnville, Marion, and Peabody all have notified the county clerk’s office they may exceed their revenue neutral rates.

Marion provided the county clerk’s office an estimated tax rate although the city has not discussed specific budget items. The numbers apparently was supplied by the city clerk.

All school districts plan to raise their tax levies.

Fire districts (2), (4), and (5) notified the clerk’s office they planned to exceed revenue-neutral rate.

Improvement district 2, at the county lake, plans to do so, while improvement district 1, at Eastshore and 3 at Pilsen do not.

Whitewater River, Sandcreek, and Lyons Creek Watersheds notified the clerk of intention to raise tax levies.

Chisholm Trail Extension District has said it would exceed revenue neutral rate.

Among townships, only Risley announced plans to do so.
