Schools compete at Scholar Bowls

Each Marion County school district sent a team to the regional Scholars Bowl competitions Thursday.

Ell-Saline regional

Goessel’s team placed first in pool play and third in the finals. They will represent Marion County at sub-state competition Saturday.

The team includes seniors Edel Miller, Nathan Impson and Chris Strecker; freshman Annalise Miller; and two German exchange students, Daniel Uhlig and Jan Wolters.

Goessel is coached by Braden Unruh and assisted by Marcia Brubaker.

Hillsboro’s team placed sixth. The team includes Jenna Hinerman, Callie Arnold, Jacob Denholm, Olivia Jury, Henry Hein, and Noah Bartel.

The Hillsboro team is coached by Bob Woelk.

Marion’s team placed fifth in pool play. It includes Hap Waddell, Kimmie Duncan, Brandon Nguyen, Drew Helmer, Christian Becker, and Emmy Hess, all seniors.

The coach is Topher Rome.

Rosalia regional

Centre’s bowl team placed 3-3 in pool play. It includes senior Ryan August; sophomores Dillon Knepp and Ashden Alcorn; freshmen Emil Godeniz Vinduska and Quintin Bina; and foreign exchange student Isabela Fassina.

The team is coached by Angela Basore.

A young, incomplete Peabody team placed fourth in pool play. Team members include sophomore Sarah Spencer; freshmen Logan Webster, Conner Callahan and Clay Tracy. They are coached by Ken Perry.
