Safe Kids Camp coming to elementary school

Peabody Emergency Services will sponsor its annual Safe Kids Camp at Peabody-Burns Elementary School on April 24. All PBES students and staff will participate.

The camp is held to make Peabody and Burns youngsters aware of safety issues that may occur as they go about their everyday activities.

Local emergency services personnel and guest speakers from the Marion County Sheriff’s department, Kansas Highway Patrol, National Weather Service, and Union Pacific Railroad will review a variety of topics aimed at keeping children safe. Discussion topics will include seatbelt safety, bicycle safety, water safety, and stranger danger, as well as tips to use in case of severe weather or fire.

There is no charge for the camp. Student lunch tickets will not be charged for the noon meal. Donations from event sponsors will cover the lunch costs.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the camp may do so by donating to a special fund set up at Peabody State Bank.
