Ruth Marie Waner

Ruth Marie Waner, 87, of McPherson died Sept. 30 at McPherson Care Center in McPherson.

Born Feb. 6, 1924, in Newton to Martin Frank and Lorene Dale (Ives) Adler, she attended Prairieview Country School, rural Burns, and graduated from Burns High School.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in McPherson, where she was a member of the St. Joseph’s Altar Society. She was a former member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Council Grove, and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Florence.

Ruth was a homemaker, rancher, a cook for St. Luke Hospital in Marion, and head cook for McPherson County Jail.

She married Robert Lloyd “Bob” Waner on Nov. 4, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2005.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, George Adler; and a sister, Florence Inghram.

She is survived by her children, Barbara J. Roe of Galva and Alan R. Waner of Hermosa, S.D.; a brother, Ed Adler of Sheridan, Wyo.; five grandchildren, a step-granddaughter; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A Rosary was held Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at Holy Family Parish, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence with Fr. Paul Oborny officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, rural Florence.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, McPherson, Hospice Care of Kansas, or Mount Hope Sanctuary, and they may be sent in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid St., McPherson, KS 67460
