Ruth Heim

Services will be scheduled later for Ruth Lemoine Heim, who died Dec. 28 at Good Samaritan nursing home in Grants, New Mexico.

She was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Marion, to Harry H. and Mabel I. (Scharenberg) Byram.

She graduated Marion High School and married Veryl R. Heim in 1949. He preceded her death in August 1978.

She graduated from McPherson College in 1974 and became an alcoholism counselor at Emporia Mental Health Center. She worked in substance abuse and crisis management positions in Kansas, southwest Colorado, and Nome, Alaska.

In February 1993, she established a retreat in Pine Hill, New Mexico.

Survivors include sons Michael Heim, Santa Cruz, California, Pat Heim, Maize, Richard Heim, Hesston, and Danny Heim, Pine Hills, New Mexico; brother Harold Byram, Wichita; and five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by grandsons Steven and David Heim, and great-grandchildren Kayla and Phillip Heim.
