Roy J. Manka, 81, died May 12, 2012, at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. He was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Peabody to Gilbert Arthur and Gladys (Burton) Manka.

He married Betty McAlister on Feb. 14, 2001, in Peabody.

He was retired from the National Weather Service. He was a member of Peabody United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; a stepdaughter, Robin Massek of Topeka; a stepson, Bryan McKnight of Dighton; a sister, Thelma Warkentine of Peabody; and 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lyle Manka; and two sisters, Helen Storbeck and Marjorie Morgan.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today — May 16 — at Peabody United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Ragland presiding. Burial will follow in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
