Roland Plenert

Retired diesel mechanic and farmer Roland P. Plenert, 92, of McPherson, a Hillsboro native, died Tuesday at Angel Arms, McPherson.

A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, McPherson. Burial with military honors will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

He was born on July 5, 1922, in Hillsboro, the son of Adolph and Helen (Hiebert) Plenert. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a life member of the VFW Post 2715.

He married Etta Mae Matz on Jan. 31, 1947, in McPherson.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Jerry Plenert; and brothers, Gordon Plenert and LaVerne Plenert.

Survivors include: four children, Darrell Plenert, Richard Plenert, Joyce Gingrich, and Mike Plenert, all of McPherson; brothers, Abe Plenert of Dillon, Montana, and John Plenert of Schwenksville, Pennsylvania; sister, Doris David of Hillsboro; 13 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be given to VFW Post 2715.
