Robert Ellis Phillips, 89, died Nov. 17 at Hillsboro Community Hospital.

He was born Nov. 14, 1923 to Luther Phillips and Gladys (Murell) Phillips.

He married Elsie Funk on June 21, 2003 in Hillsboro.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Phillips of Hillsboro; a son, Dan Phillips of Newton; two daughters, Roberta Rains of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Marsha Kientz of Newton; a brother, Kenneth Phillips of El Dorado; two sisters, Beverly Lefever of El Dorado and Dorothy Koehn of Newton; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son Robert Ellis Phillips Jr., in 2007.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro. Pastor Susan Jantzen is presiding. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jost Funeral home. Burial will be at Haven of Rest Cemetery, rural Hillsboro. A memorial fund has been established with First Mennonite Church.
